How can you convey the wisdom you have gained in your life to those who matter to you—be it family or friends? Can you—using the medium of a letter—leave these intangibles as part of your legacy as well as any material possessions that you want to pass on? Which really has more value? There is an very old Jewish custom of writing an ethical will for those you care about, articulating what has had meaning of your life, the values you strived to live by, your hopes, intentions, regrets and even your dreams.
This is soul work. It can be tender, emotional, and put the writer in touch with unfinished pieces of their lives and can lead to greater wholeness.
