Photography as Memorial / Donald Blumberg Constructs Cultural Memory

  • YALE UNIVERSITY ART GALLERY 1111 Chapel Street New Haven, CT, 06510 United States (map)

"Unlike most Vietnam War photography, which centered on combat abroad or protests in the United States, Donald Blumberg’s series Daily Photographs (1969–70) documented local news reports of the devastation, directing attention to the human cost of war. His recent series Newtown School Massacre (2012) also challenges the ephemerality of news coverage as it urges viewers to remember the victims of gun violence."
