Venga a festejar los 50 años de John Jairo con música en vivo y después todos a bailar!! Disfrute de la música caribeña de Rick Reyes y Fernandito Ferrer quienes nos cantan de las luchas de los migrantes y la gente trabajadora.
Rick Reyes was born on Bridgeport’s rough-and-tumble West Side. Months later, his parents returned to their roots in the Puerto Rican countryside. It was there, listening to traditional folk music, that Reyes forged his love of Jibaro, a music of the people full of wistful melodies. At 13, Reyes returned to the US as an outsider. He began composing songs about the struggles of his parents, the Latino community, and the poor. Reyes and his band Cosmic Jibaros have headlined the New Haven Arts & Ideas Festival and many New England venues.
Fernandito Ferrer is a pioneer among the new breed of singer-songwriters in Puerto Rico. Drawing from the Nueva Trova (“New Song”) giants of the 1970s, Fernandito adds percussive guitar techniques and his unique one-man percussion ensemble. The end result is a soothing sound that although undeniably Latin overcomes all territorial boundaries. He migrates between Puerto Rico and the northeastern United States, and he has played for social justice movements in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Mexico.
