An Evening of Sicilian Folk + Roots Music / Terra Sangue Mara: Original Folk Operetta + Concert

  • Sudler Hall 100 Wall Street New Haven, CT, 06511 United States (map)

The trio of performers, songstress Michela Musolino, organetto virtuoso Fabio Turchetti, and multi-instrumentalist Michael Delia present their original folk operetta Iu Nascìi pi Beniti Appressu a ‘Ttia/ I Was Born to Follow You — a piece inspired by the Sicilian tradition of the teatro dei pupi: the marionette theater.

After the show, they’ll perform a concert of traditional and contemporary Sicilian Folk & Roots Music, mixing genres and world sounds to create a vibrant and celebratory musical journey to the Mediterranea’s largest island.

The trio combines vocals and traditional sounds, such as the tamburo and the organetto with world instruments, like the mbira and the ektara with inspiration from a variety of musical genres and fuses them into a repertoire that is at once ancient and modern and as diverse as Sicily itself.

In addition to the concert there will be a short dance workshop.
