Wiley Mullins, Founder and President of Fairfield’s Uncle Wiley’s Specialty Foods and author of “Salad Makes the Meal”
Each C.O.O.K. event takes place in Café Vincenzo, Gateway’s cozy, elegantly appointed demonstration kitchen and dining room. Presenting chefs show guests how some of their signature dishes are prepared, cooked, garnished and served. They hear valuable tricks of the trade, see remarkable culinary tools being brandished by highly trained experts, learn how to use commonplace and exotic ingredients and spices in their home kitchens, or find out how savvy entrepreneurs have earned their stellar reputations in the food and hospitality industries.
A pre-event meet-and-greet cocktail reception, featuring an abundant selection of gourmet hors d’oeuvres, usually includes a book-signing that allows guests to chat with each C.O.O.K. personally. This reception is followed by a delicious multicourse sit-down dinner, usually prepared by Gateway’s Culinary Arts students under the expert direction of the celebrity C.O.O.K., as well as wine parings thoughtfully selected to complement the evening’s featured cuisine. Sponsors of the C.O.O.K. series include some of Greater New Haven’s leading companies, businesspeople and civic leaders.
Proceeds from each C.O.O.K. event help support Gateway students, faculty and staff.
