Let’s be honest, Valentine’s Day can be a real drag. So this year we thought, what would happen if we literally embraced it—in drag? On Sunday, February 14, from 12-2pm, celebrate VDay with office hours and hands-on love workshops led by “hello, world!” exhibiting artists Thahab (a.k.a. Nabeela Vega), Dr. Lady Bear (a.k.a. Emmy Bright), and curator, Jeremy Otters (a.k.a. J.R. Uretsky), who will come as their alter-egos.
Dr. Ladybear, a Master of Feelings with Care for the World, works with friends/clients to write letters to loved and difficult ones. We will have stamps, envelopes, and a mailbox on the premises to help produce and send these off!
Jeremy Otters, a Providence-based middle school biology teacher, will help you map out your relationship dynamics on miniature display boards. You can take these boards home to cherish as feel-good keepsakes.
Thahab shrouded in a garment of gold, a color traditionally associated with luxury and masculinity, will be available for photographs, selfies and general partying. All activities are organized to expand the capacity of Valentine’s Day to contemplate expressions of love beyond ho-hum rituals and heteronormative tropes.
Suggested donation of $5 covers mimosas and light breakfast fare.
