CEIO has pulled together a fantastic line up of New Haven area artists to rattle the roots of our 2015-16 season. From spoken word to the interactive theatre, this showcase will feed your soul, challenge your limits and provide you with tools to access, create and use art for social justice.

Enjoy a day packed with interactive performance art, storytelling, music and more. Each performer will invite the audience to dive deep - to tell a truth that burns through illusion and to express a love that is fierce and healing. Come prepared to move and be moved.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Aaron Jafferis is an award winning hip-hop poet and playwright. He will lead us to explore the change- making writers within us as well as share his creative works. Aaron teaches poetry and hip-hop theatre in schools and health centers in New Haven. BA: UC Berkeley. MFA: NYU GMTWP. www.aaronjafferis.com.

Lara Herscovitch brings a charm, authenticity, and love of performing that immediately resonates with diverse audiences. She has appeared as a guest on A Prairie Home Companion and tours from Maine to Miami.  Her extensive experience in the world of policy and social work echoes throughout the themes music.

Jason Dorsey A.K.A. J-Sun. is a poet, activist, playwright who is a  2002 CT National Poetry Slam artist and co-author of "What It iZ", a spoken word and hip-hop theatre prison abolitionist play.  Prepare to be rocked and awakened by his words and movement. Jason is a 2016 CEIO Organizer’s Path Grantee.

Hanifa Washington is a singer/song writer, spoken word artist and Forum Theatre enthusiast who graduated from Beloit College in 2001.  She will share several original songs and lead us in a crash course in Forum Theatre- a form of theater created in the 1960’s by Augusto Boal to help people change their world.
