Learn ways to incorporate vegetables into your landscape, and ideas for low maintenance groundcover. This free workshop will be lead by Westville residents Janis Underwood and Trish Helm.
Trish Helm has no front lawn or back lawn - just trees, shrubs and gardens. After perennial gardening for 20 years, she became a certified Master Gardener at UCONN in 2010. She is a member of the Garden Club of New Haven, and New Haven Land Trust Community Garden Committee, as well as community gardens in New Haven.
Janis Underwood, a native of Maine, has been gardening all her life. After teaching Family & Consumer Science to high school students for 35 years, she pursed a UConn Master Gardener certification in 2014 and Advanced Master Gardener certification in 2015. Her passion is growing and donating organic produce to a food pantry and teaching others to grow food as part of a ministry at her church. A district garden coordinator in the Hill neighborhood with the New Haven Land Trust, she enjoys the privilege of learning to garden with people with different cultural backgrounds.
Co-sponsored by Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven and the Westville Village Renassaince Alliance.
